This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something new, to shape it and to lead it.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join us as we open a brand-new Surgical Day Case Unit.

You will establish and lead the new pharmacy service, working alongside surgical, nursing, anaesthetic and operational teams to create a safe, efficient and patient-focused model of pharmacy care for day case surgery.

You won't be stepping into an established service -- you'll be helping to create one.

You will take a key role in designing, implementing and embedding pharmacy services across the new unit. You will have the opportunity to influence how medicines are managed and optimised throughout the patient's surgical journey, from pre-operative assessment through to discharge.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership for pharmacy services across surgical specialties, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care.

Lead the development and implementation of pharmacy services for the new Surgical Day Case Unit.

Support the development and delivery of safe and effective medicines optimisation initiatives throughout the surgical patient pathway, including pre-operative assessment, admission, perioperative care and discharge.

Lead on the delivery of clinical pharmacy services, ensuring appropriate medication review, reconciliation, prescribing advice and discharge planning.

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe prescribing, medicines management and improved patient outcomes.

Provide expert advice on the use of medicines in surgical patients, including antimicrobial therapy, analgesia, anticoagulation, fluid management and perioperative medicines.

Support the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.

Identify opportunities for service improvement, innovation and research, using clinical governance, audit and quality improvement methodologies.

Provide supervision, support and professional development for pharmacy staff working within surgical services.
